1993 Upper Deck Team Stars Gary Sheffield, Phil Plantier, Tony Gwynn, Fred McGriff Baseball Card #474 Like-New Condition. Ships USP First-Class.Tony Gwynn, Fred McGriff and Gary Sheffield were the cornerstones of baseball's most exciting offense in 1992, and the addition of Phil Plantier from Boston should keep it that way. Gwynn, one of the game's best hitters, has won four batting titles and is coming off his tenth consecutive .300 season. McGriff, the only player to hit 30 or more home runs in each of the last five seasons, won his second home run crown in 1992 with 35 longballs. The surprise of 1992 was Sheffield, who made a serious run at the Triple Crown but settled for one jewel, winning the batting title with a .330 batting average. He had nearly as many homers (33) as strikeouts (40). Plantier returns to his hometown in 1993, and the Padres hope he returns to the form that produced a .331 average and 11 home runs in 53 games for the Red Sox in 1991.
