1992 Upper Deck 1992 Top Prospect Ryan Hawblitzel Baseball Card #59 Like-New Condition. Ships USP First-Class.The 90 spring-training lockout turned
out to be a blessing for Hawblitzel
and the Cubs. Hawblitzel, then a senior
at Leonard High in Fort Lauderdale.
Flarida, drew the attention of baseball
officiats in the Grapefruit League when
they were left with time on their hands
One of these officials was Cubs
director of scouting Dick Balderson
who was impressed with Hawblitzel
and made him a second round draft
pick that June. After a 6-5, 3.93 year at
Rookie level Huntington, Hawblitzel
emerged as a solid prospect in 91 at
Class-A Winston-Salem. "He's a 20-
yuar old kid who pitches fike he's been
around six or seven years," Winston-
Salem Manage: Brad Mills said. "His
stuff will improve as he gets a little
older, but his mound presence is
nothing you can teach."
