setup man for ace closer Mark Davis. In his first 36 games, he
had a 5-1 record and a fine 2.85 ERA. A free spirit who throws
the ball hard and goes right at the batter, Mark was mainly a
starter his whole pro career until '88. When Dennis Rasmus-
sen joined the team in June and Mark was laboring in the start-
ing rotation with a 1-5 mark, he was sent to the bullpen. There
he thrived as a middle reliever, rolling to an impressive 2.08
ERA in his last 13 appearances.
Mark was originally drafted 10th in the entire nation by the
Giants in '81 after being named a high school All-America.
